Griffin Update

Griffin is still doing very well. He started running a temperature a couple of days ago and so that has slowed things down a little. They have run lots of blood tests and even done a spinal tap but so far everything has come back negative. His temperature is back down today but they are still giving him some antibiotics just in case. He started to eat yesterday but that is going very slow also. He is not sure what he is supposed to do with the bottle but he is improving at each feeding. I took some pictures of him after they extubated him but this computer won't let me add them to the blog so I will try again later on a different computer.

WOW!!!!!

Today has been a great day for Griffin. This morning they took him off of the ventilator and extubated him. They also took out his catheter and will take out his UVC today and they plan to start feeding him this afternoon. He looks AWESOME!!!!! He only has a couple of things still attached to him right now. A nasal canula for oxygen but they are weening him pretty rapidly from that. He has a pic line for his fentenal drip and they are weening him from that also. He has an IV in his head but that is there just in case they need it. He is off of all of the antibiotics and blood pressure medications and pooped his diaper last night. His left lung is still not inflated all of the way but he is moving air really good so they think that will just take some time. Things are looking really great and we hope to be home next week sometime. Thank you everyone for your prayers and support!

Pictures

I am finally getting a chance to put some pictures up. They are of him in the icelet getting ready to be life-flighted from Montpelier. The helicopter taking off and then two of him here at Primary Childrens.

Surgery

Griffin had his surgery yesterday afternoon and it went very well. The hole was relativley small and the surgeon was able to close it using muscle from his diaphram and he didn't have to patch it. A chest x-ray done shortly after surgery showed that his left lung was almost completely reinflated. They didn't have to go up on his oxygen during the surgery and will start weining him from that as long as his oxygen sats stay up. Last night they started to wein him from some of his blood pressure medication. Everything is looking very good and we are going to spend the day with the rest of the kids at the aquarium. Thanks for all your prayers.

Griffin Update

Griffin was scheduled to go in for surgery this morning but they decided to delay the surgery until tomorrow. Yesterday he started having some blood pressure problems and they would like to have him a little more stable before the surgery. He is still doing very well the Dr.'s just want him as healthy as possible before the surgery so that his recovery will go better. Most babies with diaphramatic hernia are not healthy enough to operate on until they are about a week old so he is still looking very good. He looks much more relaxed and comfortable today and doesn't seem to be fighting the ventilator as much. Thank you everyone for your notes and prayers we know it is helping. We will write more when we know more and hopefully I can get some pictures on here soon.

Thank You

Griffin Carling

Well Griffin was born yesterday (11-10-09) at 1:57 pm. He weighed 4 lbs 15 ozs and is 18 inches long. He had a diaphramatic hernia and was lifeflighted to Primary Children Medical Hospital in SLC. He is doing very well considering the hernia. He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow at 10:45. We are hearing good things from the medical team but his stay here will be at least 2 weeks. He looks just like the rest of the Moss clan and even has Alex's cleft chin. We will try to update the blog every day so be sure to check back for updates. Thank you to everyone for your help and prayers.
