My brother-in-law Dave also took a lot of pictures of Dalton's football games. Here is a link to the last game but you can also see his other games here as well.

Random Nauvoo

Fenton apparently got cold in the night or something because he climbed into bed with Griffin.

Fenton's favorite part of being in Nauvoo was holding baby Solange.

I think Anika enjoyed it to.

This was all of us at our Barnet Bungalow in Nauvoo (minus Dalton because he took the picture)

Nauvoo Day #3

The Mansion House
There is a family story about one of Alex's ancestors singing Chistmas carols to Joseph Smith and his family while they were staying here.

The Blacksmith Shop were we each got a prairie diamond.

The Nauvoo Temple

Joseph and Hyrum on their way to Carthage

Enjoying the snow

The Brick Maker

Lyon Drug
The kids really enjoyed learning about things that they would have been able to buy in a
store in Old Nauvoo.

They also learned about how the pioneers got their honey.

This is the home were my Great Great Grandfather Orsen Spencer lived.

This is a jail that was built using stone from the original Nauvoo Temple.

Carthage

On our second day in Nauvoo we also drove to Carthage

I did not know that the jailer and his family lived below the prisoners in the jail.  This is Fenton checking out dinner.

This is the cell that Joseph and Hyrum should have been staying in but they were acually staying in the jailers bedroom when they were killed because the jailer thought they would be more comfortable there.

Nauvoo Day 2

Our second day in Nauvoo was spent visiting the sites:

The Post Office - Fenton loved how they would write on and fold their letters

The John Taylor Home - This rocking horse was made by John Taylor for his son.  After they had crossed the Missouri River his little boy kept crying about leaving his rocking horse behind so John Taylor crossed the river in the middle of the night and retrieved the rocking horse for him.

The Print Shop - the kids have been learning about the printing of the Book of Mormon in their Primary classes and so it was fun for them to see how it was actually printed.

 Our Wagon ride
 Cuddling up to stay warm

The kids and I with Grandma in the Cultural Hall.  The floor of the Cultural Hall was the original floor were the saints danced and held other events.
The view of the temple from the Cultural Hall
The kids performing their own play on the stage of the Cultural Hall

"Rendevous in Old Nauvoo" was a musical put on by the missionaries. It was a favorite of Anika
and I. That is Elder and Sister Heaton from Alton.

Dalton's Birthday

Dalton's birthday was on Friday the 22nd while we were driving across Omaha.  We didn't get to celebrate a whole lot in the car so on Sunday evening we sang happy birthday to him and Grandpa, let him open some presents and ate cheesecake.

Nauvoo

We arrived in Nauvoo on Saturday night and woke up to SNOW on Sunday morning.

After church we took a drive around town to look at a few sights.

The snow really made the trees beautiful

Then we stopped at the Visitor's Center for a little while.  We saw this picture of some of my ancestors.  Orson Spencer is my Great Great Grandpa and Daniel Spencer is his father.

Mt. Pisgah

Mt. Pisgah was the first white settlement in Union County Iowa.  It was a settlement the saints made on their way to Winters Quarters.

This plaque tells a lot more about Mt. Pisgah

Kanesville Tabernacle

The Kanesville Tabernacle is where Brigham Young was sustained as the 2nd President of the church.  The original building was built in 2 weeks but it only lasted for about 2 years.  The city of Kanesville rebuilt this tabernacle on the same plot of land and donated it to the church. The fireplace that we are standing in front of took up an entire wall in the original tabernacle but was about half of the wall in this replica.

The kids learned to make rope while we were there and each of the boys got a chance to help out.

This was a really cool old organ they had there.
